WINERY INFORMATION Poonawatta is a family owned and operated wine business producing premium quality handcrafted wines using fruit sourced from the estate owned vineyards located in the picturesque Eden valley region Recognised as one of the oldest producing vineyards in the world the original vieyard property was first planted with Shiraz vines in 1880 after which it witnessed numerous changes of ownership It was purchased by the Holts in 1966 who restored the property to its former glory and established its reputation as a respected Australian wine producer nbsp TASTING NOTES The fruits used to craft The 1880 Shiraz were aged in French oak barriques for 20 months This led to the creation of a deep red coloured wine flaunting dark hues along the edges Complex aromas of black fruits and struck quartz flow from its scintillating nose which integrate with a sharp and intense palate containing juicy flavours of blackberries blueberries pepper and dried herbs These vibrant flavours and fragrances combine with smoky oak characters fresh acidity and fine grained tannins to culminate in a long and expansive finale This full-bodied Shiraz tastes excellent served with food items like brisket mild blue cheese and spicy venison chili nbsp
