For one thing, riesling in Coonawarra doesn’t get enough air-time. Add into that equation the rarity of botrytised dessert-style riesling, and we’ve got something that’s not only unusual but actually damn good. Botrytised? Yes, ‘noble ot’, that ‘good’ kind of grape decay that happens under the right conditions, to produce grapes that are more intense in every way. So given that Coonawarra riesling is great to start with, this is a more intense, sweet version of that greatness. Think: lime and ginger, semi-dried apricot and crystalline lemon drop action. Unctuous in intent, but not cloying in the slightest; manages to be rich but clean on the palate. Full but fine. Set yourself up properly for the silly season of desserty goodness.
