Gapsted Buffalo Pinot Noir

$10.99 See retailers & vintages

Winery Overview Gapsted Estate works with vineyards across north eastern Victoria, including the King Valley, a region well suited to Pinot Noir thanks to its cooler climate and alpine influence. The Buffalo range is about making wines that are honest, balanced, and easy to enjoy, while still showin where they come from. This Pinot Noir is made in a fresh, modern style that focuses on fruit clarity and drinkability. Region and Vintage Conditions The 2023 season in the King Valley was shaped by a third consecutive La Niña, bringing cooler temperatures and challenging conditions through flowering and ripening. Yields were lower than average, but the slower growing season helped preserve acidity and build flavour naturally. The result is fruit with good intensity, freshness, and balance, ideal for a lighter, more refined Pinot Noir style. Winemaking Techniques The Pinot Noir was harvested at optimal ripeness to retain freshness and varietal character. After gentle processing, fermentation was managed carefully to extract flavour without overworking the wine. A portion of older oak was used to add subtle structure and texture, without dominating the fruit. The focus throughout was on keeping the wine clean, balanced, and true to the variety. Tasting Notes Appearance Bright ruby red.Aroma Red cherry, strawberry, and raspberry, with light spice and subtle earthy notes.Palate Medium-bodied and smooth, showing fresh red fruit flavours with fine tannins and balanced acidity.Finish Clean and persistent, with gentle savoury notes and good length. Key Characteristics Cool climate Pinot Noir from the King Valley Fresh red fruit profile with fine tannins Light to medium body and balanced acidity Made for early to mid-term enjoyment Food Pairing Recommendations This Pinot Noir is very food friendly. It pairs well with roast chicken, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes, or simple pasta and risotto. It also works nicely on its own when you want something lighter and easy to drink.
