Château dYquem Y Ygrec Blanc

$330.00

Rare Dry Yquem: Bordeaux Blanc A.C. - Yquem's Other Exception

Yquem is generally considered the king of sweet wines. However, connoisseurs also appreciate the rare dry white wine that the chateau produces in certain years when conditions permit. "Y" (proounced "Ee-grec" in French) comes from the same exceptional terroir and vines as Yquem's famous sweet wines. It benefits from identical strict vinegrowing methods, but is harvested and produced differently. "Y" is produced when the deliberate decision is made to pick certain plots of Sauvignon Blanc grapes at the beginning of the vintage and overripe Semillon grapes later on. This accounts for the small quaintities and irregular production. There have only been twenty-three vintage of "Y" since the first one in 1959! Not only is this wine among the greatest dry white wines in France when it is young, it also has outstanding ageing potential, gradually developing a multi-faceted elegance, which reflects the quality of the vintage as well as its unique origins and method of production.
