Alongside Chateau d'Yquem Chateau Guiraud is the only other 1st Growth Sauternes that is physically inside the sub-appellation of Sauternes itself. The wine has seen significant interst for its density richness and unctuous nature produced from vineyards planted to 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon lanc. Fruit is harvested in tranches sorted and fermented in oak before being matured for up to two years in oak barrels of which 50% are new. The reputation of Chateau Guiraud has soared since the 1980s with more sypmatico viticulture and winemaking as catalysts.
