WINERY INFORMATION John Campbell a Scotsman established this vineyard in 1870 Today the property is run by a fourth generation Campbell Malcolm while his brother Colin is the winemaker They are joined by fifth generation Campbells who have added their winemaking expertise to the business andhelped make the Campbell brand a reputable name in the Australian wine industry TASTING NOTES This wine has been rightly classified as a rare Rutherglen as its ultra-rich and complex base wine is well over 60 years old Some agree that this is the embodiment of perfection in a glass Its colour is a deep mahogany brown with olive hues Luxuriously swirling in the glass the nose senses a welcome bouquet of malt and honey with slight traces of raisins and tea leaves The luscious and full weighted palate is full of soft honeyed flavours while persistent rancio characters and drying tannins on the finish even out the sweetness With an extraordinary depth of layered but mellowed flavours this dessert wine goes well with chocolates hors d rsquo oeuvres soft cheeses honeyed ice cream and almond bread When well-chilled this wine might also be taken simply as an aperitif
