Let’s be honest...it’s not too difficult to find good a cabernet blend out of WA. But the thrill of it never gets old. Take this belter from Ferguson Valley for example. Cabernet vines from last century are complemented by a good whack of malbec and petit verdot to round out this blend It’s certainly not subtle, showing a full body and heaps of complexity. The cabernet brings blackcurrant and earthiness while the other two varieties provide tobacco, plums, violets and tannin. A generous helping of oak has added a cedary touch as well. This’ll be drinking well from now until that day years down the road when you find the last dusty bottle in your cellar and say ‘hmmmm...forgot I saved one of these!’ And you’ll be delighted that you did.
