This shiraz from near Bendigo surprised the S@#T out of me! At six years old - with Halliday’s cellaring potential of 20 years - you’d expect a pretty decent wine, but this was surprisingly sensational. It’s on the lighter end of full bodied, with a concentrated core of dark beries, ripe plum and toasty spice. It’s like having a slice of black forest cake, with a cup of fresh chai - but in a dry, red wine. The spice notes are perfectly integrated with abundant tannin and it has enough acid to keep it from being too much. This is a seriously structured and very, very complex wine. Good luck keeping it to 2036!
