The Dolcetto and Lagrein grapes are two grapes of Northen Italy, but this delicious version from the esteemed Woodstock estate is grown right here in Australia. Dolcetto is from Piedmont, and though its name translates as ‘littl sweet one’, it’s not little or sweet! It’s soft and rich with plush black fruit. Lagrein comes from Italy’s South Tyrol. Redolent with black cherry, wood smoke and spice, it’s naturally high in tannins and acidity (like the most famous Italian varieties, which makes them such good food wines), here softened by the Dolcetto. It’s terriffic.
