Winery Overview 1164 Limited Release is the premium range from Warburn Estate, crafted by the Sergi family who have been making wine in New South Wales for almost forty years. Chief winemaker Carmelo DAquino oversees the small vineyard parcels used for this collection, ensuring high quality and careul handling from vineyard to bottle. Region and Vintage Conditions The 2022 vintage saw dry conditions and low yields across the premium growing areas of the Riverina. These conditions helped produce fruit with strong colour, good ripeness and plenty of flavour concentration, which suits Montepulciano beautifully. Source Grapes come from small, carefully selected parcels of vines in the Riverina. These vineyards are managed to keep yields low so the fruit develops richness and character. Winemaking The wine is matured for twelve months in a mix of French and American oak. This adds depth, spice and smoothness while supporting the natural dark fruit intensity of the Montepulciano variety. Tasting Notes Appearance Brilliant purple. Aroma Intense ripe plum with hints of cherry. Palate Warm, smooth and full of flavour with red berry notes, subtle spice and soft tannins. Gentle touches of vanilla and tobacco add complexity. Finish Long, rich and beautifully balanced with lingering dark fruit. Key Characteristics Full-flavoured and smooth Ripe dark fruit with layers of spice Structured and expressive with quality oak influence Food Pairing Great with Greek-style lamb roast, BBQ meats or cheese and chocolate. It also works well with hearty dishes that need a bold red to match.
