The Yarra Valley was first noted as a wine region in the 1800s. But it was in the 1960s when Moët & Chandon saw its potential that the world sat up to pay attention. This is a prime location for cool climate winemaking. Rich, loamy soils are just the beginning, as warm sunshine, breezes off the Suthern Ocean and cool evening temperatures help the vines produce fruit of great intensity and concentration. A mix of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier grapes are all carefully selected from cool climate locations across Victoria’s high country including the Strathbogie Ranges, Whitlands Plateau and Upper Yarra Valley. Out here in wine country, it’s the changes in altitude, age and aspect that can create something deliciously unexpected. The result is a fresh, vibrant finish with hints of apple sorbet, lemon zest, sourdough and nougat. This is the Australian benchmark for bubbles in this price range and an ever-reliable party favourite.
