Things are happening in Sicily. Once a bastion for wines made exclusively from native grapes, it now serves up compelling blends using varieties not normally associated with the island. This one is half natives (nero d’avola and nerello mascalese) and half Bordeaux varieties (cabernet sauvignon an merlot). You get the best of both worlds, a ‘sum is greater than the parts’ wine so to speak. The fruit expression is cherry, mulberry and raspberry, and the secondary notes are vanilla, coffee and cocoa. It finishes with velvety tannins and great length. Let’s hear it for the evolution of Sicilian wine!
