Winery Overview Gapsted Estate works with vineyards across north eastern Victoria, including the King Valley, a region that suits alternative red varieties thanks to its cooler climate and long ripening period. The Buffalo range focuses on making wines that are approachable and balanced, with clear arietal character. This Tempranillo is made in a fresh, modern style that reflects both the grape and the region. Region and Vintage Conditions The King Valleys elevation and alpine influence allow Tempranillo to ripen slowly, helping maintain acidity while developing flavour. The 2021 vintage delivered steady conditions that supported even ripening and good fruit quality. The result is a wine with freshness, structure, and balance rather than heaviness. Winemaking Techniques The fruit was harvested at optimal ripeness to capture varietal character and natural balance. After gentle processing, fermentation was managed to preserve fruit purity while building structure. Oak use was kept in check, allowing the wine to retain freshness and a clear expression of Tempranillo, with texture developed through careful handling rather than heavy extraction. Tasting Notes Appearance Bright ruby red.Aroma Cherry, red plum, and subtle spice with light savoury notes.Palate Medium-bodied with flavours of red berries and plum, supported by fine tannins and balanced acidity.Finish Clean and smooth, with gentle spice and good length.
