WINERY INFORMATION Vineyard Since planting their first Mornington Peninsula vineyard in 1997 Michael and Tony Lee have focused on the Peninsula s flagship cool-climate varieties - pinot noir pinot gris also known as pinot grigio and chardonnay We take great pride in our award-winning Peninsul shiraz range - still sparkling and fortified The 2009 Foxeys Hangout shiraz won four major wine show trophies including Best Victorian Red Wine in the Royal Melbourne Wine Show Winemaking Another wine made in the vineyard rather than the winery the pinot gris canes were cut at typical harvest ripeness but the grapes were left in the vineyard to shrivel and concentrate two months longer The sugar concentration and flavour development from this process is extraordinary TASTING NOTES Very pinot gris varietal William pear and honeysuckle blossom some almonds raisin character and stone-fruit complexity Bright acidity on the palate a fresh dessert wine rather than a cloying one An intense wine with great harmony and balance through to a clean finish Unctuous The previous vintage won the trophy for best sweet wine in the other varietals class that is not semillon or riesling at the International Sweet Wine Challenge in 2014 This vintage has very similar fruit aromatics and a palate line showing great tension and opulence at the same time Cellaring Five to ten years will see this wine develop from fruit dominance to a rich nutty marzipan nose Cellaring will be rewarded Food Pairing Brings out the best in blue cheese panna cotta stone fruit steamed puddings and berry desserts
