Colmar was the home of ChrÃƒÆ’Ã†â€™Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â©tien Oberlin, the viticulturist whose method of grafting French ines onto American rootstock is credited with helping turn around French wine production in the late 19th century. Oberlin passed away in 1916, but his winery (Domaine Viticole which dates back to 1255) is still around, crafting deliciously exotic Alsatian wines like this 2015 Domaine Viticole Hospice de Colmare Alsace Riesling. What makes this wine amazing is the contrast between rich flavour and crisp acidity - it's dry and taut, like an Australian Riesling, but with an amazing full bodied flavour.
