This Argentinean Syrah is a real stand out, offering a combination of spicy Syrah varietal characters, with a richness that you don't get in, say, a Rhone Syrah. Very impressive. What sets this - and the best Argentinean wines - apart is altitude. The vineyard where this Los Cardos was grown sitsat over 1,050m above sea level. Up there the UV is intense and the range between day and night time temperatures can be extreme. Those unique conditions, and the very dry, almost desert-like climate, helps make this wine so intense. Black fruited, spicy, and with an unusual sweet-but-savoury character that is quite addictive. If you enjoy, say, a spicy Canberra or Yarra Valley Shiraz, then this is a great taste of something different at a very fair price. Red - Shiraz and Blends - Syrah
