WINERY INFORMATION Started as a small vine plantation in Mangere in Auckland Villa Maria produces an outstanding range of flavoursome and award-winning wines Sir George Fistonich founded the estate in 1961 He released his first wine in 1962 under the brand name lsquo Villa Maria rsquo nbsp ASTING NOTES The grapes used to craft Private Bin Organic Merlot were destemmed and crushed to fermenters to retain maximum fruit flavours and characters This led to the creation of a deep red coloured wine with crimson highlights visible throughout The vibrant and attractive bouquet exudes juicy aromas of boysenberries and red plums coupled with subtle spice and cedar oak undertones These fragrances effortlessly shift to the soft palate to provide lush flavours of black plum fruit cake and spicy nuances which combine with fine and silky tannins to provide a smooth mouthfeel and a rich and captivating finish It has been crafted to relish upon release but can also be cellared for about 5 years from vintage This delightful red wine is a great match to Mediterranean cuisine cheese and red meats nbsp
