Garnacha tintorera, to be exact. The lesser-known sibling of good ol’ grenache that’s red to the very core. ItââÀšÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s a ‘teinturier’ grape, meaning not only are the skins dark, but also (unusually) the flesh. This results in a dark, rich, plush wine like few others. Super-fruity and exploding with juiciness, there’s nevertheless a good herby crunch for interest and balance. The colour may look like a storm cloud, but the flavour’s a beautiful summer’s day. The weather in this part of the world allows for organic grape-growing practices, too. Fermented in stainless steel tanks and then matured in oak barrels, Tintoralba have managed to find the perfect balance between preserving that stunning fruit purity, and imbuing the wine with depth and interest.
