Spioenkop Chardonnay

$32.50

Perhaps you’re like many Aussies who have experienced very little wine from South Africa. Perhaps you have, but you’ve not yet had any from Elgin. Or perhaps, you know exactly what we’re talking about when we say that these wines- whether it be chenin, chardonnay, riesling or savvy b- will sto you in your tracks. Winemaker for Spioenkop Koen Roose has said “The Elgin area is the future gold of the Western Cape” and it is objectively true. Surrounded almost entirely by mountains, the area experiences cooler temperatures than those neighbouring, and is producing simply marvelous wines. In true South African style, this wine undergoes a barrel fermentation and 9 months in French oak (30% new). It’s serving all the deepness of the oak, with elegant acidy and purity of fruit. The finish continues delivering, with wonderfully nutty, toasty savouriness that will enhance the wine with age. Go on, see for yourself. You’ll be a convert from the first sip. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
