Smithbrook Cabernet Merlot

$12.99 See retailers & vintages

In the 1980’s Smithbrook was identified as a premium wine growing site that would be most suited to planting the Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet and Merlot. The property shares similar climate, soil type and maritime influence to the most famous wine region in France. The growing season leaing up to 2012 was warmer and drier than average for the estate vineyards. These conditions are ideal as disease pressure is kept to a minimum. A rain spell in the beginning and end of January, unusual for this time of year, gave the vines a perfect boost and ensured strong vine health, and perfect ripening. This wine has been blended from a selection of 10 different blocks which have each been fermented separately and matured in a combination of new and seasoned oak barriques for 18 months. Carefully fined with egg whites before being bottled, the resulting wine style aims to demonstrate the terroir of the vineyard, rich in elegance and structure.
