Winery Overview Located on the granite ridges of the Blackwood Valley in Western Australia, Nannup Ridge was established in 1998 on a 16-hectare site with exceptional soils and an elevated aspect. The estate is owned and run by the Fitzgerald brothers, and their winemaking is overseen by award-winnig contract winemaker Bruce Dukes. The vineyard produces Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, and prides itself on crafting wines that reflect its unique terroir. Region amp Vintage Conditions The 2020 vintage of this Shiraz is drawn from the estate vineyards in Blackwood Valley, where vines benefit from long hours of sunshine followed by cool nights and coastal-influenced breezes. These growing conditions favour a measured ripening process with optimal flavour development and retained natural acidity. The granite-loam soils deliver both concentration and finesse, giving the 2020 vintage strong regional character and ageing potential. Winemaking Techniques This Shiraz is crafted with care to preserve both varietal fruit expression and structural elegance. After harvest, the fruit undergoes gentle extraction to retain aromatic purity and texture. It is then matured in selected oak individual barrels or hogsheads to integrate flavour, tannin and oak without dominating the fruit. The result is a polished wine that balances richness and finesse, designed for both near-term enjoyment and short-term cellaring. Tasting Notes Appearance Deep ruby-garnet colour showing hints of maturity at the rim. Aroma Rich dark berries such as blackberry and black cherry with underlying plum and subtle peppery Shiraz spice, plus a discreet layer of oak-derived vanilla or toast. Palate Medium-to-full-bodied, this vintage offers ripe dark fruit character think blackberry, dark plum and subtle blueberry framed by refined tannins and a smooth texture. Balanced acidity lifts the core and the oak adds gentle spice and structure without overwhelming the fruit. Finish Warm and lingering, fruit-driven with soft pepper-and-spice echoes and a graceful quieter fade, inviting another sip. Key Characteristics A full-flavoured yet refined Western Australian Shiraz with regional depth and character. Ripe, fruit-forward profile balanced by refined tannins and structured oak. A boutique expression from a highly regarded estate, offering both quality and personality. Food Pairing Recommendations Pairs superbly with robust dishes such as grilled lamb cutlets with rosemary and garlic, pepper-crusted beef fillet, slow-cooked beef ragu, or a firm aged cheddar and manchego cheese platter. Its also equally comfortable enjoyed on its own for a relaxed evening in front of a fire or winding down after the day.
