Alex McKay's Marked Tree Shiraz plays second fiddle to his stunning Reserve Shiraz, but it's a very classy drop in its own right. It comprises hand worked parcels of Shiraz from vineyards in and around Murrumbateman. The region's mix of granite and shale soils produces fruit which is perfumed and elgantly structured as well as savoury, textured and rich. For the moment, Alex has a pretty low profile, but this polished performer is set to soar to great heights.
