Julia Hill wines often lean into generous flavour, smooth tannins and reliable drinkability, making them popular for both everyday drinking and more special occasions. Region and Vintage Conditions This Shiraz is from Coonawarra, a region famed for its terra rossa soils and cool climate. While Cabernet is the regions headline act, Coonawarra also produces beautifully structured Shiraz with both richness and freshness. The 2021 vintage was one of the best in recent years. Slow, even ripening, good sunlight and warm autumn days allowed the grapes to build colour, flavour and natural concentration. Harvest took place about a week later than usual to allow the fruit to fully develop. Source Fruit is sourced from moderately cropping Coonawarra vineyards known for producing Shiraz with deep colour, ripe berry intensity and a natural lift. A selection of the best parcels was matured in new French and American oak. Winemaking A portion of the wine was aged in new French and American oak to add spice, softness and depth while keeping the fruit front and centre. The later picking date gave the wine more ripeness and richness, resulting in a velvety, fuller style. The overall approach is about enhancing the natural character of the fruit rather than overpowering it. Tasting Notes Appearance Deep, earthy red with purple and plum-coloured hues. Aroma Toasty spice, cherry plum, chocolate and a hint of mint. Palate Velvety and ripe with fresh cherry fruit and subtle chocolate notes. Firm yet supple tannins give a gentle astringency that lingers nicely. Finish Smooth, warm and carried by cherry, spice and soft oak. Key Characteristics Rich and velvety with ripe fruit Firm but smooth tannins Warm spice and subtle mint Full-bodied style with good length Food Pairing Ideal with barbecued meats, casseroles, slow-cooked dishes, roasted vegetables or a cheese board. Its a versatile Shiraz that suits anything hearty and comforting.
