WINERY INFORMATION The Houghton winery was named after Lt Col Richmond Houghton who together with two other British army officers started the winery in 1836 Wine pioneer Jack Mann is regarded as the driving force behind the success of 51 consecutive and popular vintages of Houghton He instigaed passion and creativity in winemaking while working as Senior Winemaker for Houghton from 1930 to 1972 nbsp TASTING NOTES Aged in Bordeaux-coopered French oak barrels for 16 months this amazing Houghton C W Ferguson Cabernet Malbec is a blend of 87 Cabernet Sauvignon grapes with 13 Malbec grapes This led to the creation of a purple red coloured wine lined by garnet hues The luxurious bouquet exhibits scintillating aromas of mulberries black cherries dark chocolate and cassis coupled with hints of cedar spices and vanillin oak The sharp and full-flavoured palate packs complex flavours of bramble fruit dark chocolate and ground coffee which are supported by fine and structured tannins to provide great length and density to the wine The finale is rich satisfying and perfectly balanced With a cellaring potential of 10 years this delightful Cab Malbec blend tastes excellent with roast lamb beef burritos and baked potatoes nbsp
