It’s time to really dig into the premium pinot. And the Bellarine Peninsula is a great place to start. Clyde Park planted their vineyard back in 1979 about 30km north of Geelong and have been kicking goals ever since. This is their 2020 Estate pinot, a blend of all seven clones in the vineyard. Th winemaking process incorporated 35% whole bunches and native yeast, letting the fruit and environment do the heavy lifting. Ten months in 30% new French oak finished the crafting of this wine ahead of bottling. It’s linear, structured, balanced and bright. Plenty of acid and fine tannin carry the blackcurrant, redcurrant, cranberry and cherry fruit notes, and there’s just a touch of vanilla and toast from the oak. This is sophisticated pinot through and through.
