We’ve been known to import a lot of South African wine, probably more than anyone else in Australia, but we rarely bring in pinot noir from the Rainbow Nation. It needs to be something really, really special. This certainly fits the bill. It’s tiny production stuff three barrels...get it?) with less than 300 bottles even making it over here. The grapes were fermented whole, triggering some carbonic maceration (and the associated lively spiced characteristic) and then racked to seasoned French oak for nine months. It’s an expressive wine with herbs on the nose, followed by cherry and strawberry on the palate. It’s bright, floral and layered, exactly what you want out of a quality pinot.
