How’s this for irony: I grew up in a wine-obsessed family, in a wine-obsessed region of Australia, and I used to refuse to drink wine. I was one of those rebellious teenagers who instead indulged in some pretty questionble vodka plus energy drink combinations that felt something akin to a nauseating heart attack. Oh, the joys, mofos. Then I “grew up”, joined the ‘Fo and realised what I’d been doing wrong all those years: I wasn’t drinking the good stuff. I wasn’t drinking Awatere River pinot gris.
