Mons Rubra Macedon Ranges Pinot Noir

$239.94

If you've not heard of Mons Rubra, then you're not a true Pinot fan. Based at the extinct volcano of Red Hill in the Macedon Ranges, this ultra-boutique vineyard is planted to a single clone (MV6) of one glorious grape - Pinot Noir. This 2015 release is a superstar. From a gloriously warm, >11/10 vintage in the Macedon Ranges, this is what top Australian Pinot tastes like. It's made in an ultra-serious fashion, with yields of just 3t/hectare (that's Grand Cru Burgundy levels), with 10% whole bunches, 50% new oak and a production of just 400 dozen. James Halliday certainly liked it, giving it 95 points and noting how the 'spice and forest nuances underlie the red fruits of the bouquet' with a 'seductively silky palate and long finish'. To be honest, James is selling this Pinot short. We've tasted an ocean worth of wines from all over the world in 2017 and none have seduced the tasting panel like this Mons Rubra. That beautiful spicy raspberry fruit, the fine tannins, the absolute joy of this Pinot is something to behold. Majesty, grace, excitement. What a memorable wine. Red - Pinot Noir and Blends - Pinot Noir
