We love South African wine here at the ‘fo and have been looking out for a great-quality, great-value producer for the last couple of years. We think we’ve found it here with Essay (get it? S-A) and their super-approachable, seriously-good-value wines. This one is a syah blend, with the usual Rhône partners of mourvedre, grenache and cinsault completing the mix. It’s a medium-bodied wine with a vibrant nose and textured mouthfeel. Each variety plays its roll to produce a red-fruited, spicy wine with a savoury finish. Fans of McLaren Vale and CDR - it may be time for something new?
