This is one of those beautiful garage startup to winery wunderkid stories, from the passion of an Italian family showing a bright-eyed teenager how a bottle of wine could capture the essence of a time and place in bottle. From that spark, backyard wine was born, neighbours were roped in to help, thewinemaker went on to learn the ropes in the vineyard and winery at some good places. Study at Charles Sturt ensued. And out the other side of this chrysalis came a dark horse winemaker, with a suddenly established reputation as one of Halliday’s five star makers for his family label.
