WINERY INFORMATION lsquo Akitu rsquo means the highest point in the Maori language Hawkesbury Estates Ltd has chosen this name for its wines because the estate rsquo s picturesque vineyard is situated 380 metres above sea level in Central Otago The vineyard was planted in the year 2002 and isentirely dedicated to the Pinot Noir grape variety TASTING NOTES Akitu A1 Pinot Noir presents a crimson red colour with bright ruby tinges This bold and structured Pinot Noir offers an intensely fragrant bouquet exuding powerful aromas of red cherry fruit complemented by subtle floral cinnamon and anise nuances This impressively deep and layered bouquet is further enriched by plenty of secondary characters like oregano thyme dark rose florals and smoked meats The complex palate opens with subtle fruit Spice and graphite flavours follow and balanced with lacey acidity make way for a lengthy finish The wine boasts of fine tannins Age it in the cellar for a period of 4 to 8 years for a rewarding experience Team this elegant red wine with Edam cheese or roast quail rabbit
